Igor Wendt, senior backend engineer
Systems that keep their numbers straight when everything else fails.
Over ten years building backend services in Node.js and NestJS on AWS, mostly in fintech and distributed systems. I care about the unglamorous parts: idempotency, reconciliation, safe migrations and rollbacks that actually work. Based in Brazil, working remotely with teams abroad.
What I work on
- Event-driven services
- Queues, retries and consumers that can safely see the same message twice. Designs where a timeout never turns into a double charge.
- Money and correctness
- Decimal amounts end to end, ledgers that reconcile, audit trails people can trust. Comfortable around compliance-driven requirements in financial products.
- Reliability
- Health checks that mean something, deploys you can undo in one command, backups that have been restored at least once.
- Legacy modernization
- Rewriting systems while they stay in use: same database, proof of equivalence before switching, and the old version kept as a fallback.
- Architecture
- Clear boundaries over clever abstractions. SOLID and Clean Architecture as tools, not rituals.
Writing
-
Rewriting a live legacy system without stopping it
Moving two gym management systems from PHP to NestJS and React on the same database, proving they behave the same, and switching over without losing a row.
About
I'm a backend engineer from Brazil. Most of my work has been on services where a bug costs real money, which made me careful about failure modes, data integrity and observability.
I'm currently doing an MBA in Software Engineering with a focus on AI, and I'm interested in how AI agents fit into real engineering work, beyond demos.
